Happy New Year, and an update on our Festive Activities

Well, welcome to to 2012 and on behalf of the group we’d like to wish you a very Happy New Year!

The group has had a very productive Christmas time, both fundraising and distributing to families in need. The Christmas season kicked off with some fund raising at the Children’s Services Staff morning where a raffle raised us £44, this was boosted the by Community Support Team who sold their beautiful Christmas cards designed by young service users and raised a further £43. The annual Mince Pie morning was a huge success with Childrens Social Workers turning out en mass for hot mince pies and festive cupcakes and to partake in the staggeringly difficult ‘Jingle Jangle Music Quiz’ (Thank you Mr Lane!). Overall the event raised just over £144. On top of this we also recieved a donation from Betws Ymlaen group of £100.

As usual, the fundraising and donations were put to good use over the festive period, this year we were able to provide almost £700 worth of food vouchers which were distributed between 38 families towards their Christmas grocery shop.

Charity members also co-ordinated the Christmas Toy Appeal and were able to distribute donated toys to over 60 families.

As we move on into 2012 the work continues, plans are in place for a soup day for childrens social workers, as well as ideas for a Valentines Day raffle.

We’d like to thank you again for all you support over last year and in advance for your continued support in 2012.

How your money can make a difference to families in Conwy

Hi All,

Firstly a huge thank you from us all for your continued support and interest in the group and our work.  Working in Conwy and seeing the positive effects of money raised is a wonderful experience which spurs us on as a group to continue working to raise as much money as possible.  We thought it would be nice for our supporters to have a picture of where the money goes and how appreciated it is for families who would otherwise go without.

The charity authorised a grant for one child to have a course of swimming lessons, this is what her mother had to say about the experience.

“Your grant has been an amazing help to me and my daughter.  Not only is it helping to teach and give confidence to my daughter in a swimming pool, but once she is able to swim a little, I will be able to go swimming and do my physio knowing my daughter will be safe and confident in the water as well as allowing us both to share a passion for swimming.  A bad experience put my daughter off swimming pools and after just one lesson her confidence is already apparent.  My daughter and I could not be more grateful for this opportunity which I am unable to fund myself.  Thank you”

We have recieved so many positive feedback comments from families, watch this space for more stories and comments from families.

Summer Fun

Think back to when you were a kid, and the summer holidays came along. They seemed to stretch out forever, didn’t they ? Eternal lazy days in the sunshine without a care in the world. I bet you can remember some special moments or family days out that will stay with you forever.

From a parent’s point of view, it’s difficult to keep kids entertained and stimulated all the time, and the regular cry of “Mum/Dad, I’m bored!” will be all too familiar during this coming summer holiday.

Imagine facing this scenario if you had no spare money to be able to buy toys or have days out with your family. This is the reality that many of the families we support find themselves in.

One of our supporters, Angie, has had a brilliant idea!
Angie has started a collection box in her workplace for staff to donate Summer Fun items, which will then be distributed to the families we are involved with.

What sort of items ?
Buckets, spades, frisbees, bat and ball sets, footballs, tennis/badminton sets, arts/crafts things, basically anything that families can have fun with outdoors in the summertime!

Only staff in Angie’s workplace can contribute actual items to the box, but if you’d like to help with this appeal, you can donate to us, and we’ll use 100% of the money to buy more items to benefit the children.

Did you know ?
If you donate online, we also get the Gift Aid, which means for every £1 you donate, we actually get £1.24.

So please donate today, and think of all those happy memories and special moments you’ll be helping to create for local children and young people in need in Conwy.

Feeding local people in need – Conwy Food Share

Regular readers will know that the people who run Conwy Kids Matter all have day jobs with social services,  which involves us all  supporting families in one way or another.
Many times we’ve been able to refer to a great local charity called Conwy Food Share which gives food parcels to people in crisis. Their service is amazing!
Not only are they really quick to respond, but the amount of items and the quality was really impressive. Our service users were delighted.
